Self Build

Brief

We undertook this project for Mark and Jo who were looking to create a beautiful statement home. The initial concept design was by Craig Sheach at PRP Architects with detail designs by ACA Architects.

The project is complex and demanding. Design and construction teams have had to overcome challenges presented by ground conditions, flood risks, overheating and a limited space on this highly visible corner plot.

Methods and Materials

Due to the flood risk on this site the lower ground floor has been built in cavity block work on a piled raft foundation with a block and beam floor zone. The two habitable stories above have been built using Kingspan’s Ultima panels for U values of 1.1 and a targeted air tightness of 3M3/H M2@50PA. We have integrated renewable technologies in to the building with a heating system designed and supplied by Newheat using underfloor heating and an air source heat pump. The solar and battery storage system designed, supplied and installed by S&D Solar has also been fitted to further improve the sustainability of the home. In addition to these an MVHR system has been designed and supplied by ADM Systems.
